New Parents

Firstly, Congratulations to you!

Whether you had a pregnancy diagnosis or are dealing with a shock post natal diagnosis, then my advice to you is that you have a beautiful baby -  love them and celebrate them. Put cards up, have a newborn photoshoot, take plenty of your own photos and videos and have plenty of cuddles. Whatever you are feeling is ok - you've got this...and remember you are not alone.
When you are ready, reach out...the DS community is very caring and compassionate and happy to offer advice. You are now one of the lucky few (blue and yellow heart).
Try not to be sad, the overwhelming opinion from women I've read posts from is that they spent too long feeling sad. Grieving over the child they thought they would have. Too long missing out on their beautiful baby right in front of them because they felt such a huge loss and were worried about the future. I, along with many others, wish I knew then, what I know now.  I wouldn't have worried or cried so much and I would have enjoyed time more.  Don't listen to anyone who tells you your baby can't or won't be able to do something. No-one can predict what any child can or can't do. Every child is unique and special. Enjoy the journey 🙂
Here are a few groups on facebook that are a good place to start:
This is a lovely video from Positive about Down Syndrome:  #NobodyToldMe The truth about Down syndrome
"Here's a little teaser into what we hope will be a life saver... #NobodyToldMe - The Truth about Down syndrome is a book we have published to show the world that there's nothing to be afraid of about Down syndrome. There are many outdated perceptions and attitudes, fear and stigma but we know the truth and want to share the reality." (from Positive about Down Syndrome website)
"#NobodyToldMe how amazing our lives are and we want you to celebrate with us."  You can order this lovely book of hope and love, view the online version or follow on FB using the links below:
